How sicko are you?

Last night I downloaded Sicko. It was getting late so I just wanted to see if the file was legit so I watched the first three minutes. It didn't take much, and I was totally into it. Next thing I know I'm watching the full two hour long movie. I must say it's a really amazing eye opening film.

I can attest to how worrisome being sick really is. I've been sick on and off for two years now and it's a really hard thing to deal with. I have health insurance, and being sick still cost me $6000 both this year and last year. Having to worry about being sick, and how you're going to pay the bills is really the one two punch of stress. Sicko does an excellent job of pointing out that it doesn't have to be this way!

I was also struck by the scene where the mother took her daughter with a 105 degree fever to the ER, only to have the hospital tell her that they couldn't help her. Instead she had to drive across town to the Kaiser ER that her insurance covered. As a parent that is a choice you should never have to make. A 105 degree fever is a life threatening illness for an adult let alone a young child. I can't imagine arriving at the hospital with a very sick child only to be told they can't help me. You're a damn hospital, do something!

Great film... go see it!
