GiJoe breaks into Barbie's Dreamhouse and tries on all the clothes @ 01:14 pm

So I got a call from my realtor today. He told me that the home owner looked into hooking the house up to the sewer and came up with a figure around $6000. He wanted me to cover another $3000 (my half). That would have brought the total up $5000 from my original offer. That's more than I wanted to spend so my realtor told him that I wasn't interested. So I'll start looking around some more.

Mike mentioned that it's possible for them to come back and offer something down the road if he doesn't get any more offers. So I think I'll look around for another month or month and a half and see what I come up with. If I really can't find anything I may go back and make another offer on that house. We'll see. For now I'm officially looking for a house again.

That's the part that pisses me off. Not that I didn't get that house, but that now I have to go out and look again. I was really getting used to the idea of being finished house shopping. Grrrrrrrrr.

Um... just out of curiousity, exactly how cheap are houses out there that $5000 more would be a deal-breaker? Was it just that your offer was already at the top end of what you were willing to pay, or is real estate just that cheap out there?

I bid $135k and told him to hook up to the sewer.

He said he didn't want to do that, it was too expensive. So I offered another offer of $137k which would have covered half of the hookup to the sewer.

He called back today and wanted another $3k to hookup to the sewer. I could afford that. $140k is the top I can afford, so I could afford it. It's just that it's been a lot of work and I don't know if it's worth it.

The house will need a fair amount of work so I'm not in a huge hurry to spend my max amount of money.

Ok, fair enough. It seems like $5k on $140k is pretty minimal, but if you were already having doubts about it I can definitely understand that.

It's a nice house and I may revist it later. But for now I'll let the owner sweat it. It's been vacant for 5 months already.
