Movie Theaters @ 09:21 pm

Angie and I went to a movie last night. Two tickets @ $7.75 a piece works out to $15.50, what in the hell is up with that. Seriously, I could go by a DVD, watch it once and come out ahead. I'm tired of shelling out so damn much money for a movie. Are these movie theaters really that poor? Stop charging so damn much money!

ahh, now you have pointed out a nice part about being my age ~ you look young enough to be charged the child ticket price, not the adult, even if you are 13. :) poor you. perhaps I should take advantage of this and go see a movie more often...?

Cheap bastard.

Movie tickets are $10 a pop around here. Want popcorn or whatever for you and your date/ friend/ leech? You're talking $30 for a single damn movie. It sucks.

The funny thing? Half the theaters around here are still going out of business.

That's pretty nuts.. And I thought it was bad when the theater in my area went to $4 during day showings.

Some day we'll be able to tell our kids about how "back in the day" movies only cost $10. My mom used to get in to movies for free.. Apparently back then you could pay with bags that bread came in. (Probably some promotional thing.. but still)

Speak for yourself, I've already got kids. In fact, my 5 year old's begging me to take him to the new Pokemon movie, must remember to set aside some time soon to do that. Sigh.

I suppose he can tell _his_ kids that, though. ;)

That's crazy... I'm glad they're going out of business. If you have to charge $10 per ticket and you still can't make money, you're crazy.

Yeah. It's because they opened these HUGE luxurious theaters with multiple stadium-seating style screens at each theater, multiple floors, multiple snack bars, huge lobbies, etc., and now it's so damn expensive to get in that the theaters are half-empty all of the time.

Down in the suburbs it's even worse - where my dad lives there are these huge mega-theaters with like 20 stadium-seating theaters on 2 or 3 floors spread out in these huge buildings the size of a small mall, with restaurants and arcades and sometimes even random little stores all inside the building, dedicated parking lots. Of course that means unlike the smaller, mall- and other attraction- based theaters of before where people would go do it all at the same time, now people have to make a specific trip out to do nothing but go to the movies and have to go to a remote place to do it. Before you just went to your local mall, and if you felt like going to a movie, you went. Now since they're isolated it's a whole trip unto itself. They also have all of the latest tech, really razor sharp screens and projectors, the best surround sound/thx/etc. audio, etc.... and everytime I've been to a movie the theaters are 75% empty.

Stupid.
